How Has Pool Technology Developed Over the Years?
Reading Time: 3 minutes
A backyard swimming pool offers a wide range of possibilities, providing people with a place to relax, socialize, and enjoy a swim in the comfort of their own home.
Over the years, swimming pool technology has changed and developed significantly to provide people with the best possible experience.
In this article, we’ll take a closer look at the latest pool technology and explain how the industry has changed and developed over the years.
History of swimming pool innovation
As with most things, the origins of swimming pools can be traced back to Roman times, when public bathhouses were commonplace in many cities and settlements.
The modern era of pools seems to have begun in Britain during the 1800s, and by the 1920s public pools had appeared across the US, too. By the time the Second World War had come and gone, domestic pools were becoming popular despite the fact it was typically only the affluent who could afford them.
Perhaps the biggest innovation during these early days was the introduction of rapid filtration and chlorination systems. These allowed water to be more easily filtered and chlorine to be added to the water in order to treat it and keep it sanitized. These were both large steps forward in the realms of pool technology.
These days, pool technology has come on leaps and bounds and we’ll take a look at some of the key developments below.
Infinity pools
No longer does a swimming pool simply have to take the form of a plain, boring white square. Instead, pools can be fully customized to meet your design needs and preferences and one of the main developments in recent years has been the soaring popularity of infinity pools.
An infinity pool sees water flow over one or more sides to create a stunning visual effect that gives the illusion that the pool has a missing edge. This is particularly aesthetically pleasing when complemented by stunning views that can be admired by those who are taking a dip.
3D modelling
The use of 3D modelling is another development that has helped to enhance the pool industry.
Here at Claffey Pools, we use this tech to provide our customers with a stunning 3D look at what their future pool will look like.
As part of our process, we invite customers to our offices where we can display our designs using the technology to help people visualize their pool and allow them to suggest any changes they’d like to make.
Smart technology
One of the biggest developments in the world in general that has also impacted the swimming pool industry is the introduction of smart technology.
While smartphones, watches, speakers and more have helped to make life more convenient, the incorporation of this smart tech into swimming pools has also enhanced our pool experience.
Mobile phone apps now allow users to control water temperature, lighting, filters, and even cleaning equipment from just the touch of a button. This means people have greater control over how they enjoy their pool and do not even have to be home to make sure it is being looked after.
