How to Prepare Your Pool For Summer
Reading Time: 2 minutes
It’s finally here. Summer has almost arrived and with it the prime season for use of your swimming pool. While you may have been lucky enough to get in for a quick dip during spring, summer is the time when your pool really comes into its own.
But, before you go ahead and dive straight in, there are a number of ways you need to prepare your pool to ensure it’s ready for the summer months. The team at Claffey Pools has put together a handy guide to help you do exactly that.
Top up your water
During winter, it’s recommended that while you shouldn’t completely empty your pool of its water, you should drain some of it. This is done to avoid frozen parts of your pool’s plumbing system, but before you head straight back in it’s important to top that water back up.
Use a hosepipe and top the water up to the midpoint of your pool’s waterline tile. You might be surprised that it’s as simple as using a hosepipe for the water, but you’ll be adding chemicals later on to address water quality – so there’s no need to worry about what kind of water is going into the pool.
Balance your pool’s chemicals
One of the most important things to remember when preparing your swimming pool for the summer is to balance the pool’s chemicals. A swimming pool’s chemistry is always finely balanced, and if it does not have the correct chemical makeup, it can be a hazardous environment to swim in.
It’s recommended that your pool’s chemistry levels are as follows:
- PH level – 7.2-7.4
- Alkalinity – 80-120
- Calcium hardness – 150ppm-250ppm
- Chlorine – 1ppm-3ppm
At Claffey Pools, we can supply you with testing kits and pool products that will keep your water’s chemicals at optimum levels. Simply head to our online store to browse our range of products, and you can even bring a sample of your pool’s water to our store in Southlake, Texas and one of our professionals can test it for you. Then, we’ll be able to recommend the perfect product to enhance your pool’s water.
Keep your pool well maintained
If you opened your swimming pool in spring, it’s likely that you did a big spring clean to get it up to scratch. Now summer is here, it’s important to keep up to date with this maintenance in order to keep your pool in the very best condition.
On a daily basis, you should be checking your pool’s chemical levels and applying the relevant treatments if necessary. And each week, it’s worthwhile cleaning your pool’s filter, skimming baskets and giving the outside of the pool a sweep to clear it of any dirt or debris.
As well as this, every so often take the time to inspect your pool’s equipment and interior, to check that no damage has been sustained, or organise any repairs that might need to be undertaken.
