What Pool Shape Should I Choose?

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Every property is different, so if you’re looking to have a swimming pool installed in your backyard it makes sense to have a design that best aligns with the unique specifications of your property.

While some pool contractors take a one-size-fits-all approach to their building, this is never the case with Claffey Pools.

We take a customized approach to each and every client we work with, and are able to craft pools that meet your needs, reflect the style and logistics of your yard, and align with your preferences.

Swimming pools are available in all shapes and sizes and our team of expert technicians can provide you with a thorough selection of pool shape ideas before providing you with your preferred option.

Some of the great pool shapes we can build include:

Infinity Pools

One of the most stylish-looking options you can go for, infinity pools are built with the illusion of a missing edge, making it appear as if  the water is flowing over the edge and into infinity.

Sometimes referred to as a zero edge or rimless pool, this option is highly recommended if your backyard overlooks a beautiful landscape or stunning views. This is because it gives the impression that the pool’s water is merging with the sky, offering a truly luxurious aesthetic.

Rectangular Pools

If you’re looking to keep it simple, a rectangular pool is the way to go.

In fact, this design is the most popular pool shape in the entire United States. They’re popular as they offer a large amount of space and are extremely versatile. So, whether you’re looking to use your pool for fitness by swimming laps or just to splash around in with your kids, rectangular pools are always a great choice.

L-shaped pools

What’s better than one rectangle? Two.

L-shaped pools combine two rectangular shapes, with one slightly longer than the other so an L shape is formed.

This type of pool is excellent for households that want to use the pool for different purposes. The longer side is ideal for swimming laps whereas the shorter side is usually used as an entrance area where a fun slide can be installed. Plus, the shorter side is usually shallower than the longer side, meaning people of all abilities can enjoy the pool.

Cocktail pools

If you have limited space in your yard, then you’re probably going to need a swimming pool shape that is a bit smaller.

This is where cocktail pools come into their own.

A typically smaller design than traditional pools, these pools are primarily used to relax and sometimes feature spas, jets, and benches.

So if you just want a space to top up your tan or relax in the soothing water, consider a cocktail pool.

Kidney-shaped pools

Another classic pool design is the kidney pool. So named because the shape resembles the bean-shaped organ, kidney pools offer great flexibility because they provide multiple entrance points.

Plus, they can be made big or small, so no matter how much space you have to work with they’re almost always suitable.

Freeform pools

If you want a pool that is truly unique to you, then look no further than freeform pools.

These pools have no limitations whatsoever (other than your imagination!) so no matter what shape you’re envisaging, we can make it happen.

This type of design might require a bit more planning though, so be sure to consult your pool builder to discuss your vision.
