The goal was to preserve the trees and views, blending the design seamlessly with the hillside and rustic modern home for both family comfort and entertaining. The large turf area separated the pool zone from the house providing an organic feel. The plant zone at the edge of the turf screened the pool equipment on the lower level. The 24″ terraces allowed walls to become additional seating areas creating all transitions on the sight line to become steps ensuring the sight line was not blocked. The pool length followed the primary sight line giving more scale for the space. Due to this, less retaining was needed and also minimized the need for tree removal. The gathering space in the cabanas were strategically placed to the side of the sight line ensuring the view was not blocked. The cabanas were on different levels to work with the existing grade and trees within the space. The first grouping of the Sheer Descents is placed on the gentle curve which is seen from the view of the house. The second grouping of Sheer Descents is placed on the curved wall giving a little more of the organic feel to the overall natural setting and provides a consistent flow. The finger ledge provides safety on the raised wall. The spa is an understated vanishing edge located close to the cabana featuring a fireplace perfect for social gatherings. The ledge provided space for interaction with those in the spa, creating a cohesive atmosphere. The large cabana hosts a full kitchen, bar stools and two dining tables to host mid to large sized gatherings. The cabana’s material and roofing was designed to match the existing home. The stone stub column was designed to hide all the switches and the triple 2×12 post gives an interesting detail that we had engineered with solid blocking inside the stub column. The black pool interior brought out the organic modern feel, provided contrast and reflection. Thrilled Client!
