When the owner requested what he wanted, we said we could provide his dream along with the help of many engineers. The centerpiece was the pool, providing the transition from the Formal French style home to the natural surroundings. The simple curved vanishing edge wall clad in dry stack slate provided the transition. The pool was piered due to the proximity to the 30-foot cliff down to the pond. A new dam, dredging out the swamp, while diverting water from natural spring and diverting subdivision drainage filled with sediment around the pond location (around one side of the house) and three year process with the Army Corp of Engineers got the pond back. All equipment for the project was located in the lower level of the two level cabana. The water wheel provides the focal point, fit with the French style and became part of the elaborate drain system for the subdivision. The dry stream becomes a large creek with rainfall so the bridge and cabana engineering created a solution to handle everything. The basin to trap sediment before going to the pond (around other side of pond) also created water for the water wheel. Terraces from the Great Room provided seating areas for large and small gatherings where you can try to take in all of the owner’s dream and more.
