We had an 11-foot drop to grade, so a concrete retaining wall was poured to create an upper terrace for the pool and turf area off the main house porch. The piered pool shell was installed 12″ below the porch next to the wall with one cap stone covering both structures. Stone limestone lighted steps ran the full length of the porch and sculpture terrace. The spa was built 6″ above the porch and 18″ above the turf, The spa was set up as a totally different plumbing and equipment set up so the spa could be kept at a hot temp all year long for daily use. The water feature looks to be overflowing the spa but was a separate system with the bubblers to give an understated sound. The limestone porch caps, the fire pit decking, steps, wall caps and the coping were all matching material. Pal lighting was recessed on all the step treads and on the sculpture base. The firepit and patio is engineered to cantilevered over the wall with steel I beams supports that supported the lightweight concrete with stone cap. Glass railing was used to keep the view open out to the lake and give the feeling of floating in space. Turf instead of paving was used to blend with the natural lakeside setting. The turf was added to accent the stairs as well. A second concrete wall was poured in place 3 feet below the pool for planting to soften the wall and reduce drop from the upper terrace. Both walls were stucco to match the house and all the planters were veneered in matching limestone to the house.
